Veggie Black Bean Burger 🍔 with lettuce, cheddar, caramelized onions, tomato and mashed avocado 🥑🌱
Oh was this burger delicious 🙌🏼🙀 it was my first attempt on a vegan patty and I loved it! 😍 The burger itself is not vegan because of the mayo, cheddar and buns.
I read so many recipes for black bean patties, but in the end I’ve just took the ingredients I liked of all of them and played it by ear. It was important that they aren’t too soggy and mushy and hold their shape.
This is what I came up with:
1️⃣ Mix 1 tbsp chia seeds with 3 tbsp of water and set aside to soak.
2️⃣ Fry one small chopped onion, one small grated carrot and 1/4 of a chopped bell pepper.
3️⃣ Mash 1 can of washed and dried black beans in the food processor or blender. Leave some beans as a whole.
4️⃣ Add the soaked chia seeds, 1/4 cup of oatmeal, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1 tsp cumin, 1/2 tsp chili, 1 mashed garlic clove, freshly ground pepper, 1 tsp dried coriander/cilantro and some fresh if you like. Mix well. Add more oatmeal if the mixture is too wet. Let it cool down, best is to put it in the fridge for 1 hour.
5️⃣ Form 4 patties and fry them either in the pan from both sides or grill them in the oven for 10-15 min.
