Have you ever received a compliment and responded with:
Don’t be ridiculous, you’re quite mistaken!
What’s wrong with your eyes/judgement/reasoning?
It’s clear to see that the truth is the polar opposite of this nonsense you’re spouting!! I wouldn’t trust you as far as I could throw you!
What do you mean you don’t speak like that?! Pissshhhh!! Of course you do
It’s also how your brain speaks when faced with an affirmation
Especially for those of you who struggle to see yourselves in a positive light (and who would really benefit from the aforementioned)
If you’d resist a compliment, chances are you’d resist an affirmation
The more outlandish the affirmation the less likely your brain will absorb it and it can even tip into self-criticism
I AM AN ALL POWERFUL BEING READY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
Well, (cough), actually, I think you’ll find...
A way to hijack the brain is to use ‘you’
Have you ever experienced that change in perception when someone says, oh, it’s because you’re really good at whistling/swallowing swords/pinochle (look it up, it’s an actual thing) and you suddenly think, do you know what, I am rather good at whistling/swallo... ? Well, you get the picture
It sounds such a simple switch up but I promise it’s effective!
So tell me, what are you simply brilliant at?
Don’t tell anyone, but I’ll take them all as an enormous compliment! Really, I had no idea I was so gifted!
