I’ll never forget when I first met Dennis and Vonnie. I was sitting down at an outdoor coffee shop in Tucson, AZ working away on my laptop. Dennis walked up and politely asked if he and his “beautiful bride” could sit with me. Of course I said yes and we got to chatting.
Turned out (as fate would have it) that Dennis and Vonnie’s last name was Bergquist - my godparent’s last name - and they were from Hutchinson, Minnesota - not too far from where I grew up. Needless to say, we had an instant connection.
Chatting more, Dennis and Vonnie started to go into their life work - building schools, bathrooms, pharmacies, test centers, homes and giving scholarships to those in third world countries. The passion radiated through them as they went on and on about the lives they had impacted and the many things they had left to do.
I asked Dennis, “besides money, what is one thing your foundation needs to move forward?” He said, without much hesitation, “Well, we really need a website.” He then looked me dead in the eye and said, “Enough about us, tell us what you do.”
My response: “Well Dennis, I build websites.”
One website build later, thousands of dollars raised and countless lives changed, here we are today, celebrating the beautiful legacy of Vonnie Bergquist.
Heaven gained an angel.
I’m so thankful that I was able to encounter both your beautiful souls that day. Thank you for letting me be a part of something bigger than myself and reminding me that no matter how busy I might be, there is always time to help others.
Rest easy, Vonnie. Thank you for the small encounter that had and still has, a profound impact on my life. 💛
