Our hearts feel like they’ve been ripped out. Yesterday began with a celebration of our anniversary, and ended with a nightmare when our dog Gauge was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
As many people know, Gauge went to work with my husband Chris every day. He either rode with him to job sites or stayed back in the office to play with Chris’ office manager, who he loved very much. She was letting him play in the fenced-in area behind the office, where he usually runs around, when he escaped somehow. He’s never escaped before. Shortly after he got out, he was hit by a car and the driver took off. The driver behind them saw it happen, pulled over, and called the number on his collar. We are so thankful the second driver stopped to help. Chris rushed Gauge to the vet, but they were not able to save him.
Gauge loved to “go to work” every day, he loved being on the boat with us and loved chasing after birds in the backyard. He went everywhere with us and was part of the family. He was only 2.5 years old, but he changed our lives for the better. Words can’t express how much we’ll miss him.
