Can't post boohoo without talking about fast fashion 🤷♀️
Fast fashion is a sensitive topic. Due to the harm it does to the enviroment to endlessly consume, and the harm it does to communities to make it so affordable. A few months ago a factory in the city I live was flagged as not paying workers a living wage and having poor and unacceptable conditions, especially during covid. Boohoo, coast, miss pap, Karen millen, and pretty little thing outsourced their garment manufacturing to this factory.
Since this news broke boohoo stopped using this factories services and have since bought a warehouse which will make all of their operations in house. Therefore easier to keep an eye on and ensure guidelines are adhered to, and a high standard is met and maintained.
This of course doesn't suddenly make fast fashion ethical, but unfortunately a lot of more ethical fashion (because there is no such thing as completely clean and ethical fashion) is out of people's price range, and the majority only come in straight sizing. It is a privilage to be able to consume the more ethical brands, but as these issues are spoken about and come to light, like boohoo pulling out of the factory, more brands are becoming more conscious of their impact and I hope everything will become more ethical as standard, and accessible to everyone.
